Bat Watching at Waugh Bridge

COMMUNITY BUILDING AT WAUGH BRIDGE

Thanks to our Community Building chairs Katherine Mcgaha and Lynell Grounds "An evening with bats at the Waugh Bridge" on October 2nd  was a huge success!.

Almost 300,000 Mexican Freetailed bats live under the Buffalo Bayou Bridge at Waugh Drive. Being nocturnal, they come out every night at dusk, to eat and play. Its quite a sight to see!. T.H. Rogers families enjoyed an evening of bat watching at Waugh bridge on October 2nd 2009. Local expert Diana Foss, Urban Wildlife biologist at Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. explained to kids and parents about the Mexican free tailed bats.

Highlights:
The best part was seeing them fly away - Katia
Even though we waited for an hour to watch the bats fly, it was all worth it.
Since we were on the bridge we could see the bats flying underneath. It was cool.. - Anuraag
I don't think there would be a better way to teach First graders about Environmental Science. My child Harshin in First grade was amazed to see a bat at first place and then when he learnt more information about them, he became inquisitive to learn about other kinds of bats too. - Radhika
It was awesome. The bats were so small and there were so many of them. I learned a lot and want to go back tagain with my friends. - Lydia
I liked seeing the bats hanging upside down under the bridge. They were cute. Then when the bats were flew they looked like shadows of little birds flying. - Jennifer
I had fun being with my friends and learning about bats. - Elizabeth
