What Does That Mean???
PTO T.H. Rogers has a "Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)", which is a group of parents and teachers who serve as a support group for the school. All parents and teachers are welcome (and encouraged!) to join!
The PTO meets once a month on the third Thursday of the month (check the calendar as dates sometimes change!). The meetings alternate each month between 7:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the school. The exact location, date, time, and agenda will be posted on the calendar on this site each month.
The PTO acts primarily as a support function for the school. There are four main areas the PTO currently Fundraisers for:
1. Help supplement requests from teachers/administration that can not be fullfilled with HISD funds. 2. To support projects parents have suggested, and administration has approved (e.g., upgrades to technology, garden projects, lab resources). 3. Hospitality - The PTO likes to recognize teachers, aides, staff, and administration for the great job they do for our children. 4. Student Events - the PTO periodically puts on events for the students to supplement their school experience (e.g., Buck store or Dr. Seuss Day)
PAC The "Parent Advisory Committee" is a meeting held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:45 a.m. at school (check the calendar for dates, times, location). All parents are welcome and encouraged to come to these meetings. Parents meet with the principal and assistant principals to voice concerns and hear suggestions or recommendations on programs, changes, etc. The group does not discuss individual teachers at this meeting. Parents are asked to speak directly to any teacher about issues.
CLUSTER MEETING This is just a fancy word for "meetings"! Each month different groups of teachers hold "cluster meetings" to discuss issues that effect the group. The meetings are usually attended by the Principal or Vice Principal.
SDMC Shared Decision Making Committee - this is a committee made up of a parent, community representative, several staff members (a teacher from each unit is preferred) and of course the principal and/or assistant principal. This committee has the task of writing the school improvement plan and making any other decisions regarding the school (i.e.. dress code).
Anything else? If you've heard someone talking about a group or meeting that you would like more information on, just email us at webmaster@throgers.org and we'll get the info for you and publish it on this site.
